Create and Manage Dynamic Events
Integrate external events from third-party systems to synchronize Profile interaction data and power your targeted campaigns.
1. Overview
- Definition: Dynamic Events allow you to record and structure customer interactions from external systems (like your Website, Mobile App, CRM, or POS) and sync them directly into the CDP Profile.
- Key Actions: Create/edit/delete events, turn data recording ON/OFF, view configuration guides.
2. Terminology & Configuration Parameters
- Interaction Direction: Determines how the interaction is displayed on the Profile’s Timeline (either from the Business side or from the Customer side).
- Event Key: A unique identifier for the parameter, automatically generated from the Event Name. It is used when configuring data synchronization.
3. Prerequisites
- Permissions: Your Mobio account must have the
INTEGRATIONRBAC permission. (See instructions on Configuring RBAC here):- Settings > Workspace Settings > Data Synchronization > Dynamic Event
- Settings > Workspace Settings > Data Synchronization > Dynamic Event > Details
- Access Path: Go to Settings → Data Management → Events → Dynamic Event.
4. Step-by-Step Instructions
4.1. Create a Dynamic Event
- Go to Settings → Data Management → Events → Dynamic Event, then click Create New Event.
- Set up general information:
- Event Name: Enter a unique name to identify the event in Mobio.
- Interaction Direction: Select From the Business side or From the Customer side. This determines how the event visually appears on the Profile Timeline.
- Configure Event Fields:
- Event Trigger Time: This is a default, required field that timestamps when the event occurred.
- Add custom fields to capture more details:
- Field Name: Maximum 50 characters, no special characters. The Event Key is generated automatically.
- Data Type: Choose from String, Number, Date, Date time, or Boolean.
- Required for Sync: Check this box to make the field mandatory for incoming data.
- Click Save.
Tip for String fields: Check the Save and show suggestions when filtering box to cache up to 20,000 values. These values will appear as dropdown suggestions when filtering later, helping your team find specific data faster.
4.2. Manage Dynamic Events
Once an event is active, you can manage it directly from the events list:
- Activate/Pause: Turn data recording for the event ON or OFF.
- Edit: Update the fields within the event.
- Delete: Permanently remove the event from the system.
Important: Once an event starts receiving data, you can only edit its name, not its structure.
5. Operational Rules
- Initialization Delay: It can take up to 15 minutes to initialize a new event. Pending events display an orange clock icon. Reload the page after a few minutes to confirm activation.
- Event Editing Rule: To protect data integrity, structural edits are disabled once an event begins receiving data. You can only update the event name.
6. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- Q: Why can’t I change the Field Data Type after saving an event?
- A: Changing a field’s data type (like switching from String to Number) after data has been recorded can corrupt your existing data. Because of this, structure changes are locked.
- Q: What does the orange clock icon next to the Event status mean?
- A: This indicates the system is still setting up the database structure for the event. Wait a few minutes and refresh the page. Once the icon disappears, the event is ready to be used.
7. Next Steps
After successfully creating a Dynamic Event, complete the following configurations to leverage the data for management and automation:
- Configure Data Synchronization with Data Flow: Configure structured or unstructured (JSON) data sync via Data Flow. See instructions on Configuring Data Flow for Dynamic Events >>
- Leverage Data in Segments & Omni-channel Journeys: You can use incoming event data and its fields to create targeted customer segments or to inform your Omni-channel Journeys.
