Configure Event Tracking
1. Overview
- Definition: Event Tracking lets you define and monitor user engagement on your websites or mobile applications.
- Benefits: Capture real-time engagement (such as page views, page scrolls, and form submissions) and sync it to Mobio to trigger On-page Journeys.
- Users: Admin, Marketer.
2. Terminology & Configuration Parameters
- Default Event — Base events automatically generated by Mobio, including Open app, Close app, Login, Logout.
- Dynamic Event — Specific tracking events defined by Mobio users (e.g., clicking the Submit button on the homepage, or dwelling on a screen for 10 seconds).
3. Prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure you have:
- Integrated a Website (for Web)
- Integrated an Application (for Apps)
- Clearly defined tracking events beforehand
- Permissions: Your Mobio account must have the
INTEGRATIONRBAC permission. View RBAC access permission instructions here. - Access Path: Go to Settings → Data Management → Events → Event Tracking.
4. Step-by-Step Instructions
4.1. Create Event Tracking for Applications (Mobile App)
- Go to Event Tracking and select the Application tab.
- Click Create New Interaction Event.
- Select your target application.
- Enter an Event Name.
- Under Monitoring Screen, select a pre-configured screen name from the dropdown list or manually enter the screen ID.
- (Optional) Click Add fields to include attributes. Enter a Field Name, select a Data Type, and set it as Required or provide a Constant value.
- Click Save.
Important: You cannot edit an event after it is created. If you make a mistake, you must delete it and start over. - Return to the event list and toggle the tracking status to ON.
- Click Enable Tracking in the confirmation pop-up.
4.2. Create Event Tracking for Websites
- Go to Event Tracking and select the Website tab.
- Click Create New Interaction Event.
- Select your website, then click Continue.
- The interface displays the configuration panel on the right and a live mockup of your website on the left.
- Set up the event:
- Enter an Event Name.
- Choose interaction:
- Click: Hover over the mockup, select the element you want to track, and click Confirm.
- View page: Tracks how much time a user spends on the target page.
- Pick Common Select (Optional): Mobio automatically detects and tracks elements with similar structures, saving you time when configuring duplicate events.
- Hide tooltips (Optional): Hides the “Selected Position” tooltip on the mockup if it overlaps with other elements you want to track.
- Create Event fields:
- Field Name
- Data Type
- Data retrieval method (subsequent configuration changes depending on your choice).
- Apply to similar pages (Optional): Extend this tracking configuration to other pages that share the same structure.
- Click Save to finish, or Save and Continue to save the current event and create another.
Note: Mobio automatically collects advanced engagement metrics like Time on page and Scroll depth.
4.3. Manage Events List
- Filter Events: Click the Filter icon in the event list. Select your criteria (like Event Type, Status, or Updated Time), then click Apply.
- Delete Events: Click the three-dot icon next to an event and select Delete.
Note: Default Events cannot be deleted. You can only delete Dynamic Events.
5. Operational Rules
- Mobio automatically generates Default Events when you connect a mobile application. These events are grayed out because they cannot be edited or deleted, though you can still view their details.
6. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- Q: Can I change the Event Key for an existing event?
- A: No. Events are locked from editing once created. You must delete the event and create a new one to generate a new key.
- Q: Why can’t I activate or delete an event immediately after creation?
- A: The system requires a few minutes to initialize new events. Wait a moment, then reload the page.
- Q: Do I need to create separate events if my Android and iOS apps have identical tracking events?
- A: No, you can configure both Android and iOS in a tracking event configuration.
